December {Mini} Book Haul

7:00:00 PM

Technically I bought this first book in November, but since it was purchased in the last days of the month and I DIDN'T HAVE TIME I'm just gonna go ahead and count it as a December purchase. Okay? Great.

I have been wanting to read Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar since before I was even exposed to her poetry as an undergrad, but for whatever reason I just haven't been able to find a copy on my excursions to new and used bookstores in the past. So when I recently received a 30% off coupon from Barnes and Noble, I knew what I would be putting it toward. I've already started The Bell Jar, and I'm really enjoying it so far. It's really interesting to examine Esther Greenwood's decent into madness, especially given the parallels between Greenwood and Sylvia Plath's own experiences.

I picked up The Snows of Kilimanjaro on a whim at my local used bookstore, even though the book looks like it's never even been read. I went through a period of time last year where I was fascinated with Hemingway (after reading Paula McClain's The Paris Wife) and read The Sun Also Rises, which I had mixed feelings about. I knew that Hemingway had written a number of short stories in his lifetime, and thought that after my lukewarm experience with The Sun Also Rises, I should try more of Hemingway's work. I've been reading more collections of short stories this year than I ever have, and thought this would be a great addition!

I also bought an ebook this month. I've been thinking about this series since I finished the first book, Leaving Amarillo, earlier in the year, and decided to break a bookish rule and *gasp* read the third book in the series before the second. I had my reasons. Mostly having to do with knowing that this book would help tie up the loose ends of the first novel, which was what I wanted - I'll eventually read the second book of the trilogy, but for now I've got my answers. *evil laugh*

What books did have you purchased recently? And what books do I need to drop everything to buy? Let me know down below!
